How Telehealth Works

  • Telehealth allows you to meet with Dr. Strom via secure video from your computer, tablet, or smartphone. All you need is a private space and a reliable internet connection. Appointments are conducted through a HIPAA-compliant platform, and you will receive a link prior to your visit.

  • Yes. Research consistently shows that telehealth psychiatric care produces outcomes comparable to in-person visits. For medication management and diagnostic evaluation telehealth is highly effective and offers the added benefit of being able to meet from the comfort of your own home.

  • We are currently accepting patients located in Connecticut and Massachusetts. Dr. Strom is board-certified and licensed in both states.

  • A device with a camera and microphone (smartphone, tablet, or computer) and a stable internet connection. No special software needs to be downloaded in advance. We will send you everything you need before your first appointment.

What to Expect at Appointments

  • Your initial appointment is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation. Dr. Strom will take a detailed history of your symptoms, prior diagnoses, medications, medical history, and personal background. This thorough process ensures an accurate diagnosis and forms the foundation for a personalized treatment plan. Initial appointments are given extended time so you never feel rushed.

  • Initial evaluations are typically 60 minutes. Follow-up appointments are generally 30 minutes. Extended time is a deliberate feature of our practice — we believe quality psychiatric care cannot be delivered in a 15-minute slot.

  • Yes. Dr. Strom is a solo practitioner, meaning you will see the same board-certified psychiatrist at every appointment. You will never be handed off to a mid-level provider or a rotating clinician.

  • To make the most of your first appointment, it helps to have the following ready:

    • A list of any current medications, including dosages

    • Names of any prior psychiatric providers and diagnoses

    • A summary of treatments you have tried and how they worked

    • Any questions you want to make sure are addressed

Conditions & Medications

  • We treat a wide range of psychiatric conditions including mood disorders (depression, bipolar disorder), anxiety disorders (generalized anxiety, panic disorder, PTSD, social anxiety), ADHD, psychotic disorders (schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder), OCD, substance use disorders, and more. Dr. Strom has particular expertise in complex cases where prior diagnosis or treatment has been unclear or unsuccessful.

  • Yes. Psychiatric medication management is a core service. Dr. Strom specializes in developing individualized medication plans that prioritize effectiveness while minimizing side effects. He takes into account your full history, prior treatment responses, and personal preferences.

  • Absolutely. Diagnostic re-evaluation for complex or previously misdiagnosed cases is one of the areas where Calivor adds the most value. Many patients come to us after years of treatments that did not work. A careful, unhurried evaluation by a physician specialist often reveals a clearer picture.

  • Controlled substances such as stimulants and benzodiazepines may be prescribed when clinically indicated. All prescribing decisions are made thoughtfully, with attention to safety, clinical evidence, and your individual circumstances. Telehealth prescribing of controlled substances is subject to state and federal regulations, which we will discuss with you during your evaluation.

Insurance & Pricing

  • We currently accept Aetna, Anthem, and Cigna. We are selectively expanding our insurance panel. If your plan is not listed, we encourage you to contact us — this may change, and many patients with out-of-network benefits receive partial reimbursement from their insurer.

  • Our standard rate for intakes is $500. Subsequent follow up visits are $300. We also offer a sliding scale based on household income and family size.

  • Yes. We believe financial circumstances should not be a barrier to quality psychiatric care. Our sliding scale adjusts fees based on household income and family size.

  • If you have a PPO or out-of-network benefits through your health plan, you may be able to submit a superbill (an itemized receipt) to your insurer for partial reimbursement. We are happy to provide superbills upon request. Contact your insurer directly to ask about your out-of-network mental health benefits before your first appointment.
