Transforming Mental Health Care in Connecticut
During my psychiatry residency in New York, I had the opportunity to work across several different inpatient psychiatric units. Each setting deepened my understanding of how complex and deeply personal mental health treatment can be. These early experiences exposed me to the diverse challenges patients face and the essential role that thoughtful, attentive care plays in their recovery. Later, when I began working on an inpatient psychiatric unit in Connecticut, I was struck by a recurring theme among the patients I treated. Many shared their frustrations about their experiences with outpatient mental health care. They often spoke of feeling rushed during appointments, of not feeling truly heard or understood, and of being placed on medications that did little to help—or worse, caused troubling side effects because the original diagnosis had been incorrect.
Listening to What Patients Need
These conversations were not isolated. Over time, they painted a picture of a system that too often sacrifices depth for efficiency. As I collaborated more closely with outpatient providers, I gained a deeper appreciation for the immense pressures they were under. Many clinicians were managing caseloads that far exceeded what was reasonable, largely due to the high demand for psychiatric care and the financial constraints imposed by low reimbursement rates from insurance companies. These factors combined to create an environment in which both patients and providers were underserved.
Why I Founded Calivor Psychiatric Solutions
These realizations became the driving force behind my decision to found Calivor Psychiatric Solutions. I envisioned a telehealth psychiatry clinic that would prioritize quality over quantity, compassion over convenience, and meaningful care over hurried check-ins. I wanted to build a practice where patients across Connecticut could access mental health care that was truly personalized, deeply respectful, and clinically sound.
Calivor Psychiatric Solutions is designed to address many of the issues I observed during my time in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Our model centers on providing thorough and thoughtful psychiatric evaluations, allowing for careful diagnostic work that takes into account the full scope of a person’s history, symptoms, and lived experience. Rather than rushing to prescribe medication, we take the time to ensure that any treatment decisions are grounded in accuracy and collaboration. Patients are active participants in their care, not passive recipients of rushed conclusions.
Making Psychiatry More Accessible with Telehealth
The use of telehealth allows us to extend these services across the state of Connecticut in a way that is both accessible and flexible. Without the barriers of travel or long waitlists, patients can receive care in a private, comfortable setting that fits into their lives. This is especially important for those who may have previously been discouraged from seeking help due to logistical or emotional hurdles. With telehealth psychiatry, we bring the clinic to them, creating space for healing that feels more human and less clinical.
A New Standard of Care in Connecticut
At Calivor Psychiatric Solutions, we believe that good psychiatry begins with listening. Every session is a chance to connect, to understand, and to move forward with a treatment plan that reflects the unique needs and goals of the individual. Our commitment is not just to managing symptoms, but to fostering long-term well-being through compassionate, informed care. We are building a clinic that reflects the kind of mental health system I always wished existed—one that makes space for nuance, respects complexity, and treats every person with dignity.
If you have felt overlooked or dissatisfied with your past mental health care experiences, I want you to know that there is another way. At Calivor Psychiatric Solutions, we are here to listen, to understand, and to help you navigate your path to feeling better—on your terms, and with the care you deserve.
